I loved Dr.Seuss’s books. And when I searched for his POEM, I found one that I had already read about:
Oh, the places you’ll go!
By Dr.Seuss
Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!
I think Dr.Seuss Believes that EVERY KID has a great future by his writing. Let’s move on.
You have brains in your head,
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And
you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll
decide where to go.
Let’s stop here for a moment. What do you think the first four lines mean? I think that we should break it into two parts: two lines each part. The first part means that you have everything you need to do things. Part 2 means that you have your tools, so you can go wherever you want, do whatever you want, choose whatever you want, and get whatever you want. Same as the last two lines. Line 5 and 6 reminds that nobody’s going to stop you going. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. Let’s move on.
You’ll look up and down streets. Look ‘em over with care.
About some you will sat, “I don’t choose to go there.”
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you’re too smart to go down any not-so-good streets.
Isn’t the same as I said above? You can do whatever you want. YOU are the first, last and the ONLY one to control yourself. Let’s move on.
And you may not find any
you’ll want to go down.
In that case, of course,
you’ll head straight out of town.
When you read a poem, you need to understand it. It’s the second time I read it, so I understand most parts. This part is about sometimes you might go on a road that there are nowhere you want to go next on this road. In this case, you’ll try and get out of that road and start fresh.
It’s opener there
in the wide open air.
It should be connected with the part above!
Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people and brainy
and footsy as you.
This part means that when you start fresh, things can happen and challenge you more often. But you’ll find that things are almost the same to you and people similar to you.
And then things start to happen,
don’t worry, don’t stew.
Just fo right along
You’ll start happening too.
Does that mean that when things start to challenge you, or questions started to occur, don’t worry about it. Just go along your path and other people will also have the same problem if they also started to go on the road you choose? What do you think?
OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!
You’ll be on your way up!
You’ll be seeing great sights!
You’ll join the high fliers
who soar to high heights.
I think that means that you will go straight on in your road, and go where you want to succeed. You will also join the others which go on the same road.
Well, the poem is soooo long! So I’ll tell the parts that I think is the most important.
I’m sorry to say so
but, sadly, it’s true
that Bang-ups
and Hang-ups
can happen to you.
You can get all hung up
in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You’ll be left in a Lurch.
The rest of the poem almost mean the same. It means that sometimes you can get stuck. Like when you don’t know how to do something, or you has a physical problem, or you suddenly met a challenge that is too big, or … So many things can occur, and you’ll be stuck! You can’t move on! But if the other people in your group don’t met the problem, they’ll keep going. But you’re still stuck! And when you get over it, you’ll be left lonely.
That’s about half of the poem. It’s too long for the speech, and there are no time for this. Whatever, if you want to read the WHOLE poem, Just search ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go’, then find ‘’Oh, the places You’ll Go - Dr. Seuss’. When you clicked in it should be pink background with blue words. Enjoy the poem!
