There are plants all around us. Such as trees, grass, beans… There are so many of them. But have you ever think of any questions when you plant a plant? There are many questions, waiting for YOU to ask and discover the answer.
Me and my dad has been planting some beans. There are two kinds: Beans that grow in water, and beans that grow in soil. We’ll call the beans that grow in water ‘water beans’, and the other ’soil beans’. Well, the ‘water beans’ were already growing at our balcony, when the weather is a bit hot. The bright sun hefts the water up until the temperature is very high for the beans. They can’t stand it, so they died. There are two ‘soil beans’. One of them were also growing at the balcony, but the only thing we see is grass. We haven’t seen the bean sprouting for many days, and we can’t tell why this happens. But the last bean survives at my dad’s good care and sprouts. Today the bean is growing perfectly!
And here comes our question: Why does a plant GROW? Well then we shall know the organization of a plant. Let’s use a bean as an example: A bean have five parts. One of them is the SEED COAT, used to protect the FOOD STORE inside. The food store is used to feed the EPICOTYL(Baby sprout) and RADICLE(Baby root). And the one that connects them is the HYPOCOTYL. These are the five parts of a bean. After some days under the cellular respiration the root might begin to grow. Then they’ll sprout. But here comes another problem: Why does a bean can sprout, but a ROCK can’t? This might seem ridiculous, but it is a big question.
A bean can sprout because it is a LIVING OBJECT. And a rock is a NONLIVING OBJECT. But what is the difference between them? There are TWO main differences: A bean has a REACTION to the condition of the outside world, and it has CELLS. But neither a rock can have a reaction, nor a rock have a cell. For example, if you splash a bean into pieces it can’t grow anymore. It dies(a reaction). Because its cells are destroyed. But no matter how hard you strike a rock to the ground, it has no reaction. Because it has no cells to be destroyed! And here comes our final problem: How to you CLASSIFY living objects?
If you read a book called ‘From bacteria to plants | science explorer’ you’ll find out that there are three DOMAINS and six KINGDOMS. Please don’t be surprised when you hear the word kingdom. The three domains are: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya. The six kingdoms are: Bacteria, Archaea, Protists, Fungi, Plants, and Animals. If you see some words repeating please understand it, for there’s only one kingdom in that domain.
The outside world is so mysterious! We only know very little about our world, and there are many more questions, waiting for you to find the answer.
